First Meeting of Fall 2010! Get Excite!

September 1st is when we’ll be having our very first MTSU Anime Club meeting of the semester.

Wednesday meetings this year are in Mass Comm 104 from 6pm-9pm. However, the meeting on September 1st will only be from 6pm to 7:30pm because organizations are not allowed to conflict with MTSU’s Welcome Week events.  Please make a note of this!

For those unfamiliar with our meetings, we tend to watch Japanese cartoons. In Japan they refer to it as “anime”. Anime can be very diverse, as opposed to Western culture’s animation which is generally limited to children’s tv, or comedy (IE: Simpson’s, South Park).  If this sounds like it is something you’re interested in, feel free to stop by. There are no dues, and there is nothing to be afraid of!

After each meeting, we gravitate towards cyber cafe for dinner and hang out there until they close up shop. We generally try to keep quiet during the shows, but we encourage social activity at this venue. If you are a freshman and/or do not know where Cyber Cafe is, just ask someone at the meeting.

Our first Thursday meeting will be on September 9th. More details on that will be posted closer to the date.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to express them at the 1st meeting official thread: A Reminder About the First Week’s Meeting

It looks better in green…

Hey all, I was doing some summer updating and I messed up the site. It’s all black now and has default pictures.

Don’t let that discourage you, though! There’s a t-shirt ninja who happens to have backups. Those should be available shortly.

In the meanwhile, please take some time to check our amazing forums

The forums are fancy and nice. You can talk to like-minded anime fans and get some extreme discussions going on. So dial-up and log on!

Fresh Faces: Customs 2010

There comes a time in every anime club’s life when they have that innate desire to lure incoming freshman to join our wonderful establishment.

It is customary that all incoming freshman attend a customs session. It’s a glorious orientation that can be fun for everyone!

Current club members are encouraged to volunteer to be at the booth. You can cosplay, bring anime-ish things, or some manga. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet fresh faces!

Prospective club members are invited to come visit our table, and learn more about what we do. If you’re into anime, you should definitely give our booth a visit.

Here is the list of the days when we will have a table at customs:

May 27 (Th)
June 4 (F)
June 10 (TH)
June 16 (W)
June 19 (SAT)
June 24 (TH)
July 8 (TH)
July 14 (W)
July 17 (SAT)
July 23 (F)
July 29 (TH)

The session lasts from 9am-noon. (Although, students usually don’t come until 9:30)

For other comments, volunteering, questions, or concerns please visit the thread on our forums

In The Community: MTAC 2010

Many members of the MTSU Anime Club got back from Middle Tennessee Anime Convention 2010 recently.

According to Joshua Spurlock, over 20 panels were run by members of our club. Unfortunately, I was only able to record segments from three of them.

The first one is run by our President Kyoji and Kisha. This panel is about how people of non-Japanese-descent are viewed in anime culture. This one is called “People of Color in Anime”

The second one is run by Ashley and Jon. This one is called “Panelloid: A Vocaloid Panel”. Vocaloid is a singing synthesizer application software developed by the Yamaha Corporation that enables users to synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and melody. They have mascots for the different voices, and this panel covers the various types of vocaloid related things.

This next one is special. Headed up by Thomas and our former head of programming Stan, it’s FANDUMB. Hailed as one of the coolest panels at MTAC (albeit an 18+ endeavor) I present to you:

Shirt Prices and Ordering, Council Action, Party & Cosplay Contest

Hello, my moe mates! At the next meeting, we will be taking orders for this year’s shirts, with the price set at $15.

For the sake of transparency, I just wanted to let everyone know that the shirts themselves will cost about $13 each, but I’m adding a $2 buffer in case people back out (resulting in an increased price) or in the event that we need faster shipping. Whatever is left over will benefit the club, rest assured. The shirts are black with the voted upon art and “MTSUAC.COM” in a Pac-Man-style font on the back, shoulder-blade area.

The ordering process will be as follows: Only using the previous list as a tool for determining the prices, we will have a new sign-up list, requiring your name, size, and a signature committing to pay if you do not pay at the time. I’m making sure that everyone is aware of the fact that the last list was not the list to be used for ordering. I would love it if everyone paid Wednesday night, but I realize that is unrealistic. Thus, I will be collecting money for it until the next Wednesday night meeting (4/14), though I will be found at JTV Night on (4/8), the Cyber Cafe after every meeting, and our party this weekend.

Speaking of, PARTY (and Cosplay Contest) THIS WEEKEND! In BAS S262, we will be celebrating the winding-down of this semester with food, fun, and a cosplay contest! Regarding the party: Please bring food (we will provide some, but only what is budget-appropriate), card games, and yourself! Regarding the cosplay contest: Please bring an originally-made (not purchased) costume of a character from a form of media, preferably from anime, manga, or Japanese live-action. The prize will be a pass to MTAC Odyssey!

Don’t forget about the Council Action at Wednesday’s meeting! Also, remind your friends about shirts! See you then!
